The Ministry of Public Works has commissioned a new landing at the MacKenzie waterfront in Linden, Region Ten.
The $14 million facility aims to ensure that the residents of Muritaro and Malali have a comfortable place to rest their goods while waiting for transportation.
At the commissioning of the landing, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill reminded the residents that under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), the “train of development” will continue for all Guyanese.
“We heard, as a government, the concerns of our Amerindian brothers and sisters that when they come to Linden, sometimes they try to land at various boat landings [and] they are chased away, bullied and even mistreated…[we wanted to] ensure that they are treated with respect and with dignity,” he explained.
In addition to this new landing facility, the villagers of Muritaro and Malali will benefit from a water ambulance landing so that sick residents will be able to go directly to the Linden Hospital Complex and have easier access to the healthcare services provided there.
