A speeding motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a cow on the New Amsterdam road in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The dead man has been identified as Winston Hinds, 59, of Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 18:00 hrs on Republic Road, New Amsterdam. At the time, Hinds was driving motorcycle #CP 8186 owned
Initial investigations revealed that Hinds was driving motorcycle #CP 8186, proceeding north on the western drive lane on Republic Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when he collided with a light brown cow which was walking north on the western drive lane.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the road surface, where he received injuries to his head and body. The injured man was then picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is presently lying at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
