Message from the People’s Progressive Party on the Occasion of Guyana’s 56th Republic Anniversary

On this proud occasion of Guyana’s 56th Republic Anniversary, the People’s Progressive Party extends heartfelt greetings to all Guyanese at home and in the diaspora.

February 23rd stands as a powerful reminder of our nation’s journey to full sovereignty and self-determination. It is a day to honour the vision, courage, and sacrifices of our foreparents who fought tirelessly to ensure that Guyana would stand as a proud Republic, governed by its own people and guided by its own destiny.

As we commemorate this milestone, we celebrate the rich diversity that defines our nation and the unity that continues to strengthen us. Guyana’s progress has always been built on the resilience, hard work, and aspirations of its citizens, and today we remain committed to building a country where every Guyanese can share in opportunity, prosperity, and dignity.

The PPP reaffirms its unwavering dedication to safeguarding democracy, defending our national sovereignty, advancing inclusive development, and ensuring that the benefits of our nation’s growth uplift every community across our beautiful homeland.

On this Republic Anniversary, let us reflect on how far we have come and renew our collective pledge to work together for a stronger, more united, and prosperous Guyana.

Happy 56th Republic Anniversary, Guyana.

ERC Republic Day Message 2026

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) extends warm Republic Day greetings to all Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora as our nation proudly commemorates its 56th Anniversary as a Republic.

On February 23, 1970, Guyana became a Co-operative Republic, transitioning from the British Monarchy as its Head of State and affirming our sovereignty. This historic milestone continues to serve as a reminder of our collective journey toward self-determination, national pride, and unity.

Guyana’s Republic Day is synonymous with Mashramani, a name derived from our Indigenous peoples that translates to “celebration after hard work.” The spirit of Mashramani reflects resilience, perseverance, and the shared sacrifices of our ancestors who laboured to build this nation. It is both a celebration of achievement and a recognition that nation-building requires sustained effort, cooperation, and mutual respect.

As Guyanese come together in vibrant displays of culture, music, pageantry, and creativity, the ERC encourages all citizens to embrace the deeper meaning of this celebration. Mashramani is not only a festivity but also a powerful symbol of unity in diversity, a reminder that our strength lies in the harmonious coexistence of our many ethnic, cultural, and religious constituencies.

As we reflect on how far we have come as a nation, let us look ahead with a shared sense of purpose and responsibility. May this Republic Anniversary inspire us to further strengthen national unity, deepen mutual understanding, and advance the continued development of Guyana.

Happy Republic Day and a joyful Mashramani to all.
