A manhunt has been launched for the capture of Randy James Smith, who escaped from lawful custody at Matthews Ridge, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).
Smith was taken into custody for the offense of rape of a child under the age of 16. The investigation into the sexual offense has been completed, and the suspect was expected to be formally charged.
The police stated that all necessary measures are being taken to locate and recapture the suspect; at the same time, an investigation has been launched to determine how the prisoner escaped from custody.
The Force continues to urge members of the public to share any information that may assist in the swift recapture of the escaped prisoner.
