The body of a 64-year-old man was this morning discovered in a room on the third floor of the SleepIn Hotel on Church Street, Georgetown.
He has been identified as Desai Dasrath, a Venezuelan national.
This publication understands that the man arrived from an interior location at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport on Saturday and was picked up by a driver and taken to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, where he stayed for several nights.
On Monday night, the same driver took the man to the SleepIn Hotel, where he was booked for two nights.
The driver told investigators that on Tuesday morning, the man called him and asked for directions to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Outpatient department.
This morning, the driver said he arrived at the hotel to deliver $100,000 in cash to the man, sent by his employers to facilitate his travel back to Venezuela on Thursday.
However, the driver said upon arrival at the hotel, he was unable to get in touch with the man via phone calls.
As such, he said he then proceeded to the room where he knocked on the door and received no response. He then contacted the receptionist, who sent a staff to open the door with a key.
Upon entering the room, they observed Dasrath motionless on the bed.
This publication understands that there were no visible signs of violence on the man’s body.
Investigations are ongoing.
