High-profile weapons, ammunition missing as boat sinks during joint service operation in Reg. 9
Several high-profile rifles and a quantity of ammunition are now missing after a boat transporting joint services members sank at Normandy Crossing, Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo) on Saturday.
Police stated that ranks of the Guyana Police Force, the Guyana Defence Force, and a Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) officer boarded an 18-foot aluminum boat at the landing for a joint operation along the Rupununi River when the vessel sank shortly after departing the landing.
As such, the occupants were forced to swim safely to the riverbank. No injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, the police stated that three service rifles and a quantity of ammunition were reported missing in the river. Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force are currently conducting recovery efforts in the area.
