Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, yesterday met with representatives of the World Bank Mission for Guyana’s One Health Project, with discussions focusing on implementation progress; key disbursement conditions; and the monitoring of fiduciary, environmental and social components.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Health’s Brickdam Headquarters, Georgetown, also explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration with development partners to support the successful rollout of the project.
Funded through a grant from the Pandemic Fund and credit support from the World Bank, the One Health Project aims to fortify Guyana’s resilience to health emergencies, using a collaborative, multi-sectoral and transdisciplinary model that recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health.
The project’s development objective is to strengthen Guyana’s capacities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to health emergencies and, in the case of an eligible crisis or emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it.
The World Bank Mission is led by Senior Health Specialist and Co-Task Team Leader, Federica Secci, and Health Specialist and Co-Task Team Leader, Behnaz Bonyadian. Other members of the team include Senior Financial Management Specialist, Saidu Dani Goje; Senior Environmental Specialist, Kirk Christopher Nathaniel Brown; Social Development Specialist, Ramon Anria; Senior Procurement Specialist, Blandine Marie Wu Chebili; and Health Specialist Consultant, Anna Elisabeth Larsen. Senior Agriculture Economist, Winston Dawes, and other team members will join selected meetings virtually.
Among those present at the meeting from the Ministry of Health were Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narine Singh; Epidemiologist and Focal Point for International Health Regulations, Dr Anand Persaud; and Director of Health Sector Development Unit Ms Sonia Roberts.
