A Corporal attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and seconded to Base Camp Stephenson in Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was placed under close arrest following the disappearance of an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine.

Based on reports received, the soldier, who resides in Timehri and was on standby, had signed for the firearm and ammunition mid last week. However, the authorities realised that the weapon and magazine had not been returned, thus prompting an investigation.
The rank was immediately taken into custody for interrogation. Based on reports reaching this publication, the Corporal reported that he had misplaced the weapon but could not remember when he had set it down.
A team from Camp Ayanganna was deployed to Timehri along with members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to investigate the matter.
Up to late Saturday, the Corporal remained under close arrest.
