The woman accused of killing her seven-year-old daughter at Fyrish, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) on Sunday, was discharged from the Port Mourant Hospital on Thursday and taken into police custody.

As the investigation continues, she was taken back to the scene by investigators as police intensify their probe into the child’s death, with charges expected to be laid as early as Friday.

Investigators returned the suspect to the Fyrish location as part of ongoing efforts to reconstruct the events surrounding the incident. Police sources indicate that statements continue to be collected and key details verified as the probe advances.

The accused, 26-year-old Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, is alleged to have killed her daughter, Isabella Dabadial, at their home at Fyrish Road, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), on April 5 at about 11:30h.

According to police reports, Shivpersaud allegedly suffocated the seven-year-old during the incident. Investigators further stated that she also attempted to kill her one-year-and-nine-month-old son, Ethan, but was unsuccessful.

Police said the woman had reportedly been experiencing emotional distress after her husband left the home several days prior and refused to return. She is also said to have told investigators that she had nothing to eat on the morning of the incident and became overwhelmed.

Following the alleged act, Shivpersaud reportedly inflicted injuries to herself, including cutting veins behind her ankles, and was subsequently taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where she remained under medical supervision until her discharge on Thursday.
Authorities confirmed that the child was pronounced dead, while the toddler survived the ordeal.

A post mortem examination performed on the body by Government Pathologists Dr Vivakanand Brijmohan gave the cause of death as manual strangulation.
