Police in Regional Division #6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition that were found on Friday, April 3, 2026, at around 16:00h, at Number 66 Village Backlands, Corentyne, during an intelligence-led operation.
As part of the operation, ranks went to the area where searches were carried out.
While the exercise was in progress, two unidentified males were seen in a boat and subsequently escaped into nearby bushes. A search was then conducted on the abandoned boat, during which a suspected 16-gauge shotgun and twelve 16-gauge cartridges were found.
A 47-year-old labourer of Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was arrested during the operation and is assisting with the investigation.
The suspected firearm and ammunition were secured and lodged.
Investigations continue.
