A fire this afternoon completely destroyed a bond at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) that stored commodities for the popular 401 Furniture Store.
Losses are estimated in the millions. In fact, just this week, a container with goods such as furniture and mattresses was recently placed at the facility.
The owners said they were informed of the blaze at around 13:25hrs.
Businessman Nazim Khan said he had sent workmen to the facility to conduct a cleanup when they discovered a beehive, which they attempted to destroy by starting a fire. It is suspected that the fire spiralled out of control, causing full destruction to the property.
Investigations are ongoing.
