Fazil Hussain, a 23-year-old mechanic of Lot 1 Good Intent, Essequibo Coast, is currently hospitalised in a critical state after the motor car he was driving crashed into a utility pole and then toppled over into a trench.

The incident occurred at around 01:40 hours today along the Zorg Public Road, Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

At the time, Hussain was driving motor car, PAG 4292, with one other occupant, a 21-year-old resident of Spring Garden, Essequibo Coast.

Based on police reports, the driver was proceeding in the northern direction, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, and while navigating a ‘double bend,’ he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a utility pole on the eastern side of the road. As a result of the collision, the pole fell onto the vehicle, which then flipped over and ended up in the nearby trench with the four wheels upwards.

Residents assisted in removing the driver, who was in an unconscious condition, from the submerged vehicle as well as the occupant, who was in a conscious condition, and reportedly fled the scene after being rescued, according to the police.

The driver was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and diagnosed with internal bleeding and water in the lungs. Hussain was subsequently transferred to Lima Public Hospital in a critical condition, where he is presently in the emergency Care Unit on a life machine.

Investigations are ongoing.
