The area where Vasanti Gordon was shot and injured

A 27-year-old self-employed woman, Vasanti Gordon, of Islington Village, East Bank Berbice, is currently hospitalised after she was shot several times by a man with whom she previously shared a relationship.

The incident occurred at around 16:50 hours on Saturday, April 11, 2026, outside the victim’s home in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

Based on police reports, Gordan and the suspect shared a relationship but separated recently. The victim alleged that she was in her motor car when the suspect approached her with a handgun, discharged several rounds in her direction and struck her to the head with the said handgun.

The injured woman was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital, where she was seen, examined, and admitted by a doctor on duty with suspected gunshot injuries to her right leg and thigh. Her condition is listed as stable.

A spent shell was recovered from the victim’s motor car, which was processed as part of the investigation.

The suspect, a 28-year-old unemployed male of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje, Berbice, has not yet been arrested and is being sought as investigations continue.

This publication understands that the suspect is known to the police and has been implicated in several high-profile matters in the region. He is currently before the court in connection with a multi-million dollar robbery at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six.
