The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security continues to stand with women from all walks of life, working tirelessly to empower and equip them for true financial independence.

On Monday, through a strong partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank and the Government of Guyana, 10 women, out of a cohort of 54 survivors of domestic violence, were each awarded business grants of $300,000 under the Support for Safety Net Programme.

These grants are specifically designed for survivors who have been supported by the Ministry’s Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Policy Unit, walking alongside them every step of their recovery journey.

The initiative goes beyond financial support, it is about restoring dignity, rebuilding confidence, and creating real opportunities. Each grant is intended to help recipients start or expand small businesses, paving the way for sustainable livelihoods and long-term independence.

The distribution ceremony, held at the Umana Yana, saw the grants being handed over by Minister Vindhya Persaud, alongside IDB Country Representative Lorena Salazar and Political Counsellor at the High Commission of Canada, Daniel Bood.

Together, this collaboration signals a powerful commitment to ensuring that survivors are not only supported, but are given the tools, resources, and confidence to rebuild their lives stronger, safer, and more independent than ever before.
