The decomposing body of a 44-year-old man, popularly known as “President”, was discovered inside a house at Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), on Saturday morning after a foul odour emanating from the premises prompted a report to the Police.

The dead man has been identified as Lenox Deane, of Lot 7 Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, and Lot 2 Section J, Plantation, West Canje, Berbice.

Police ranks responded to a report of a foul smell coming from the premises at about 08:50h on Saturday, October 31.

Deane’s body was discovered at about 09:10h, lying face-up and naked on a bed inside the house. It was in an advanced state of decomposition.

A member of the community who viewed the body before Police arrived said they could not determine whether foul play was involved.

Initial investigations revealed that Deane was a patient of the National Psychiatric Hospital and had moved to the Patrick Dam address about three months ago.

Police said he was last seen and spoken to on Wednesday, October 28, at about 15:40h.

The body was subsequently removed and taken to a funeral home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Investigations are continuing.
