Police in Regional Division #2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are investigating the discovery of a body found on Friday, May 1, 2026, at about 18:10 hours, at Lake Capoey, Essequibo Coast.
The deceased is a so far unidentified male of mixed ancestry.
Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks, after receiving a report, went to Capoey Lake, Essequibo Coast, where a decomposed body was observed lying face up and motionless on the lake bank.
The body was partially submerged in water and clad in black underwear. It was examined, and a tattoo bearing the word “ANIMAL,” along with the image of a jaguar, was seen on the upper left arm.
The body was removed from the scene and escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was examined and certified dead by a doctor on duty. It was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
