Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, has met with representatives of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), Director of Research Aliyyah Shakir and Executive Assistant and Office Manager Marvelle Sealy, to advance preparations for the upcoming State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC).
Set to take place in Guyana for the first time from October 5–9, 2026, this prestigious conference will bring together hundreds of Caribbean tourism leaders, international delegates, youth representatives, and policymakers.
Discussions focused on planning key elements of the event, including venue selection, conference activities, and panel sessions.
Hosting SOTIC positions Guyana at the center of Caribbean tourism policy dialogue, at a time of regional reset toward resilience and sustainability. The event provides opportunities to accelerate infrastructure development, airlift capacity, and accommodation readiness, while offering direct exposure to investors and tour operators.
Significantly, it also strengthens Guyana’s role in shaping regional tourism policy and positions the country as a major player in developing Guyana’s MICE tourism sector (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), enhancing its competitiveness in the regional and global tourism market.
