Carpenter shot dead at Bare Root

Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are investigating an alleged murder committed on Homton Chichester, also called “Orlando,” a 34-year-old Carpenter of Bare Root, Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, which occurred on Sunday January 18, 2026 about 19:30hrs.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the body of the deceased was found lying motionless along the Bare Root Access Road with suspected gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder areas. Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene and the deceased was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

A motorcycle was also found at the scene and was secured by police as part of the investigation.

The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras and footage was retrieved which will be analysed. Several persons were contacted and questioned.

Investigations are ongoing.
