Police have discovered a quantity of suspected cannabis during a recent operation at a business premises in Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, leading to the arrest of a 57-year-old businessman.
Based on police reports, at approximately 19:15 hours on Thursday, January 8, 2026, a team of ranks on patrol acted on information received and went to a shop located at Mocha Arcadia, where they contacted the businessman.
A request was made to conduct a search on him and the shop. While the personal search yielded nothing illegal, a subsequent search of the shop revealed several small transparent zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, found on the shop floor.
The suspect was then cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Farm/Herstelling Police Station. The cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 13.96 grams. The Narcotics were then marked, sealed and lodged.
Investigations are ongoing.
