Three persons were jailed while one was acquitted of drug possession charges following the conclusion of their trial at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Tecina Angel Wills, 22, of Two and a Half Miles, Bartica-Potaro Road; Rhon Smith, 36; Walter Benn, 27; and Melissa Allen, 28, all of Mora Camp, Bartica, Essequibo River, were charged with having 272 grams of cannabis in their possession.
The four accused were arrested on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, and subsequently charged on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
However, the four accused made their appearance before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed on Tuesday at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where a trial was conducted.
Wills and Smith were found guilty and were each sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, while Benn pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to three years. Allen was found not guilty, and the charge against her was dropped.
