An armed bandit is believed to have been injured during a robbery attempt on a 45-year-old mechanic of Durban Street, Georgetown.
Initial enquiries revealed that the victim was in his yard, where he also operates a mechanic workshop, when two males arrived on a red and black KTM motorcycle about 21:45hrs on Saturday.
One of the males reportedly dismounted, approached the victim, brandished a handgun and attempted to relieve him of a chain. A scuffle ensued, during which several rounds were discharged in the victim’s direction.
The mechanic managed to run into his house unharmed, during which one of his friends armed himself with a knife, reportedly intervened. Police say one of the suspects, who had pursued the victim, is said to have sustained injuries before fleeing the scene along with his accomplice on the motorcycle. None of the victims received any injuries.
Two suspected 9mm spent shells and one suspected 9mm projectile were recovered at the scene. CCTV footage is currently being reviewed as part of ongoing investigations.
Efforts are underway to locate the suspects as investigations continue.
