Commemorative stamp commissioned to mark 60th anniversary of Guyana’s admission to UN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the United Nations (UN) Country Team in Georgetown, commissioned a commemorative postal stamp to mark the 60th Anniversary of Guyana’s admission as a member state to the United Nations on September 20, 1966.

The stamp, which includes the map of Guyana and the official UN emblem, signifies Guyana’s enduring partnership with the United Nations and its commitment to the work of the Organisation.

Guyana has maintained robust engagement with the United Nations over the past six decades. Its representatives have assumed positions of responsibility within the UN system on numerous occasions, including those of President of General Assembly, President of the Security Council, Chair of the Council of Namibia, Judge on the International Court of Justice, among others.

Guyana’s commitment to multilateralism and the pursuit of a sustainable and peaceful world through cooperation and joint endeavour are embedded in our collaboration with the UN. Guyana has remained steadfast in its commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, which remain as relevant today as they were 60 years ago.

The United Nations Charter and the Organisation’s institutional machinery have been instrumental in Guyana’s quest for development, for the preservation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the peaceful settlement of disputes with neighbouring countries.

The Government of Guyana expresses the appreciation of the Guyanese people for the cooperation and support that our country has enjoyed through the agency of the UN, including its country team in Georgetown.

On this occasion Guyana reaffirms its commitment to continued collaboration with the United Nations in its multiple fields of endeavour in service to humanity.
