Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident which occurred on Monday September 14, 2026, about 15:21hrs on Rose Hall Town Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, resulting in the death of Sonia Williams, a 51-year-old resident of Chesney Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice.
Initial enquiries revealed that Williams’ motor car #PAK 5566 was stationary on the southern side of the road when she reportedly attempted to open the right-side front door. A white motor car, which was proceeding west along the road, reportedly collided with Williams and the opened door.
As a result of the collision, Williams fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries about her body. She was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention.
Williams’ body is presently at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police subsequently identified the driver as a resident of Hampshire, Corentyne, Berbice and the motor car involved as #PJJ 7624. The driver and motor car are presently in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
