Employees whose negligence result in unnecessary losses will be held accountable – GuySuCo boss 

See full message from Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), Paul Cheong, to employees as the company prepares for the commencement of the second crop of 2026:

As we prepare to commence the Second Crop of 2026, I want to take this opportunity to speak directly to every employee across the Corporation.

The second crop is our largest and most important crop of the year. It gives us another opportunity to improve our performance and demonstrate what we can achieve when each of us carries out our responsibilities with commitment, discipline, and a sense of purpose. Success will not depend on a few individuals. It will depend on every employee doing his or her part well.

Over the past several months, we have faced many challenges. While some were beyond our control, there were also many situations within our control where we could have done better. Too often, problems were identified but not addressed with the urgency they required. Going forward, we must place greater emphasis on execution. Good intentions and good plans are important, but they must be supported by action.

I ask every employee to approach this crop with a renewed sense of ownership. Whatever resources have been placed under your care, whether it is a machine, a vehicle, a tool, a field, an office, or any other asset, treat it with the same care and respect you would if it belonged to you. Protect it. Use it wisely. Avoid waste. Make decisions that add value rather than create unnecessary costs.

Our character is reflected in the way we perform our duties each day. Our integrity is one of our most valuable possessions. It cannot be bought or replaced once it is lost. Cherish it, protect it, and preserve it in every decision you make. Responsibility means taking ownership of our work, correcting problems when they arise, and never accepting poor standards as normal. These are the values that build trust, strengthen our Corporation, and lead to lasting success.

I also want to be clear that accountability is an essential part of our culture. Employees who demonstrate commitment, professionalism, and ownership will continue to receive our support. Equally, those whose actions or negligence result in unnecessary losses, waste, or poor performance will be held accountable. It cannot be business as usual.

I know this Corporation has dedicated employees who want to see GuySuCo succeed. Let us work together, support one another, and approach this crop with pride, professionalism, and a shared commitment to excellence.
