Porter arrested after body of 20-Y-O woman found in shallow grave at Mahaica

Police are investigating an alleged murder which is reported to have occurred on Friday July 3, 2026, about 20:00hrs at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, resulting in the death of Kerriana Standford, a 20-year-old housewife of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara. The woman’s body was discovered on Friday July 10, 2026, buried in a shallow grave at the back of a residence at Chelsea Park, Mahaica.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had visited the residence of a 24-year-old porter of Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, prior to her disappearance.

Acting on information received, Police visited the location, where the body of a female was discovered buried in a shallow grave at the back of the property.

Acting on further information received, Police contacted and arrested the suspect at Enmore, East Coast Demerara. He was escorted to the Mahaicony Police Station, where he was placed into custody.

The body was escorted to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor. It was thereafter transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
