𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒆 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒌𝒂, 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝑬𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒃𝒐
Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Saturday, May 30, 2026, about 23:30hrs at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, during which a 20-year-old Venezuelan construction worker of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, was injured.
Investigations revealed that a 62-year-old farmer of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was at home when he reportedly heard a sound coming from his front door.
Further enquiries disclosed that the farmer, who is a licensed firearm holder, later observed the 20-year-old male under a shed on his property. During the incident, two rounds were discharged from the firearm, which resulted in the 20-year-old receiving injuries to his upper right abdomen area.
The injured man was escorted to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted a patient.
The farmer later reported the matter to the Police.
The licensed firearm, five live rounds and two spent shells were lodged pending investigation.
Several persons were questioned and statements are being taken as part of the investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
