All gratitude is to Allah (SWT), Lord of all creation. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, companions, and all those who follow his noble way. On behalf of the Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, I extend warm Eid Mubarak greetings to every Muslim household across this nation, and I ask Allah (SWT), the Almighty, to accept from all of us our prayers, our sacrifices, and our sincere acts of devotion during these blessed days.

Eid al-Adha commemorates one of the most revered families in human history: the family of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him. Honored as the patriarch of the Abrahamic faith traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Prophet Ibrahim stands as a timeless symbol of faith, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to Almighty God.

This sacred occasion reflects upon the profound trials endured by Prophet Ibrahim and his family, rooted in complete submission to the Divine Will: a willingness to surrender all they possessed, including what was most beloved to them, in devotion to their Lord. Most notably, it recalls his readiness to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail (Ishmael), peace be upon him, as an act of complete faith and obedience to Allah (SWT). The Holy Qur’an accords Prophet Ibrahim the highest status, describing him as an “Ummah,” a nation unto himself, and honoring him with the title Khalilullah, the Friend of Allah.

“When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I have submitted to the Lord of the worlds’.” – (Holy Quran – Surah Al-Baqarah, Chapter 2: verse 131)

The Qurbani is not merely about the animal we offer; it is about the sincerity, obedience, and taqwa that must fill the heart. We are called to sacrifice pride, selfishness, and every habit that distances us from Allah (SWT), for as He reminds us:

“It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him.” – (Holy Quran – Surah Al-Hajj, Chapter 22: verse 37)

As millions gather in Makkah for Hajj, clothed alike before their Lord, this season calls us to let that same spirit shape our lives here in Guyana: strengthening family ties, honouring our elders, guiding our youth, and working together for peace. Allah (SWT) reminds us:

“People, We created you all from a single man and a single woman and made you into races and tribes so that you should get to know one another. The most honoured of you are the ones most mindful of Him.” – (Holy Quran – Surah Al-Hujraat, Chapter 49: verse 13)

The Muslim Ummah continues to face severe trials, especially our brothers and sisters in Palestine and Sudan. We must hold them in our prayers and support them however we can. The believer does not respond to hardship with despair, but with patience, du’a, and trust in Allah (SWT). Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) trained us to combine prolonged prayer with sincere effort, anchored always in the words:

“Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).” – (Holy Quran – Surah Al-Imran, Chapter 3: verse 173)

These words steadied the companions when armies had gathered against them, and they returned with the blessings of Allah (SWT). Tawakkul means placing our affairs in His hands while continuing to make sincere effort, seek good counsel, and remain steadfast upon what is right.

May Allah (SWT) accept our sacrifices and worship, forgive our shortcomings, protect our families, and let this Eid be a time of joy, generosity, and remembrance. Let us spend these blessed days with our families, visit relatives, reconcile hearts, and ensure that those in need are not forgotten. May Allah (SWT) grant ease to those who are suffering, peace to this nation, and unity to the global Ummah. May Allah (SWT) bless our nation as we all strive for a better country. May this Eid renew in us the spirit of our father Ibrahim (peace be upon him), firm in faith, pure in intention, and constant in trust in the Almighty.

Eid-ul-Adha embodies message of peace, brotherhood & humanity – PPP

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) extends heartfelt Eid-ul-Adha greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters across Guyana and throughout the diaspora.
Eid-ul-Adha, one of the holiest observances in Islam, commemorates the unwavering faith, obedience, and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim. The occasion serves as a profound reminder of the importance of devotion to God, selflessness, compassion, and the willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good.

This sacred celebration also reinforces the values of charity, generosity, humility, and care for the less fortunate, as families and communities come together in prayer, reflection, and sharing. These timeless principles continue to inspire unity, understanding, and kindness among people everywhere.

At this special time, the PPP joins with the Muslim community in celebrating the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Adha and the message of peace, brotherhood, and humanity which it embodies.

Embrace Eid-ul-Adha’s ideals of faith, sacrifice, compassion & generosity – ERC

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) extends heartfelt greetings to Guyana’s Muslim community and to all Guyanese as the nation’s Islamic brothers and sisters observe Eid-ul-Adha. On this sacred and blessed occasion, the Commission joins in prayer, reflection, and celebration.

Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice in Islam, commemorates the steadfast faith, devotion, and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), whose willingness to sacrifice that which was most dear to him became an eternal testament to faith, surrender, humility, compassion and divine mercy. Those are the principles which continue to inspire humanity and contribute to the strengthening of peaceful and caring societies.

This year’s observance of Eid-ul-Adha carries added significance as it falls just one day after Guyana commemorates its 60th Independence Anniversary on May 26, serving as a reminder of the shared journey that has shaped our nation through the contributions, sacrifices, and coexistence of people of every faith and ethnicity. The occasion also reflects the beauty of Guyana’s multiculturalism, where religious observances are respected and embraced within a spirit of mutual understanding and national unity.

The Commission further notes that the principles embodied in Eid-ul-Adha, generosity, empathy, and concern for the well-being of others, remain important in fostering goodwill, social harmony, and respectful coexistence among all peoples. Such values continue to hold significance as Guyanese collectively work toward preserving unity and strengthening the bonds that connect our diverse nation.

In keeping with its constitutional mandate to promote harmony and good relations among all ethnic groups, the ERC encourages all citizens to continue embracing the ideals of faith, sacrifice, compassion, and generosity which underpin this holy observance.
