Guyana’s nine-member team combined for 13 medals at the 2026 Roger Boyce Classic in Barbados

It was a profitable weekend for the Guyanese bodybuilding team in Barbados as the nine-member contingent combined efforts for a whopping 13 medals at the Roger Boyce Classic. Adding the cherry on top of the local team’s achievement, Roley Chandler snagged a coveted Pro Card, in an outstanding individual performance.

Chandler’s Pro Card was indeed well-earned, coming after three gold medals in the Men’s Overall Physique, Junior Physique and Men’s Physique 179cm categories.

Romelton Siland was Guyana’s next best individual performer, bringing home two golds and one silver medal. Siland started his campaign with silver in the Master’s Physique category, then upgraded to gold in the Men’s Fitness and went on to strike gold again in the Men’s Fit Model category.

For his two-medal tally, Lindon Burnett grabbed gold in the Men’s Masters Bodybuilding category and silver in the 85kg Open Bodybuilding category. In the same Masters Bodybuilding category, Guyana’s Colin Chesney claimed silver and later added another silver medal, this time in the 85kg Open Bodybuilding category.

Weslyn Gonsalves showed up and showed out for the Guyanese ladies, registering a bronze-medal performance in the Women’s Wellness category. Over in the youth division, Javier Cespedes captured gold while Suraj Jahaman bagged a silver medal, to cap off Guyana’s 13-medal haul.

Overall, Guyana bagged seven golds, five silvers and one bronze at this year’s Roger Boyce Classic. In other results, Sabita Stephenson finished just outside the podium positions, in fourth, in the Women’s Bikini category. A fate shared by Christopher Anthony in the Classic Physique and Up to 70kg Bodybuilding divisions.

Siland, aside from his three-medal haul, had a sixth-place finish in the Men’s Physique 176cm division. The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) noted its pride in the athletes’ achievements, articulating such in a social media statement.

The GBBFF wrote, “This triumph is a powerful statement: Bodybuilding in Guyana is on the rise. Without the unwavering support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the Guyana Olympic Association, none of this would have been possible. We extend heartfelt gratitude to all who continue to show love and support for our athletes. And we are not done yet, tomorrow is the Pro Show… so watch out!”

The team was accompanied in Barbados by Federation President Roger Callender and Vice President and National Coach Videsh Sookram.
