The Guyana Police Force today conducted a drug destruction exercise, disposing of over $1.7 billion in narcotics that were used as evidence in various court cases which are now completed.
A breakdown of the drug destroyed by fire shows approximately $738,195,125 cannabis and a whopping $974,383,500 in cocaine.

According to the Police Force, this total figure of some $1,712,578,625 reflect the significant volume and value of illicit drugs removed from circulation following successful prosecutions.
Today’s destruction exercise was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Fiona Fredericks – Head of the Narcotics Branch.
The exercise forms part of the Force’s standard procedure to dispose of narcotics that were previously tendered as evidence in matters concluded before the courts.
Head of the Guyana Forensic Science Laboratory (GFSL), Dellon France, and a team were on site conducting quality control tests of the drugs before destruction.
It was further noted that this destruction exercise underscores the continued efforts of the Guyana Police Force to combat drug trafficking and ensure that seized narcotics, once no longer required for evidentiary purposes are permanently removed from potential re-entry into society.
