“I want to help animals” – First Son raises $10M for animal welfare organisations
First Son, Zayd Ali, on Thursday raised $1 million each for ten animal welfare organisations following the remarkable success of his lemonade sale, hosted at State House.
In addition to the funds raised, Toucan Distributors also generously sponsored the distribution of Purina-branded bags of chow.
The organisations that benefited from Zayd’s donation include: Guyana Foundation for Animal Welfare and Rescue, Furball & Friends, Paw some Oasis, Ravena’s Rescue, Hope for Animals Inc., Rosewood Foundation, Tails of Hope, Paws for a Cause, and Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).
Additionally, the funds raised will help subsidise the cost of spaying and neutering dogs and cats at Animal Kingdom Pet Care.
“Every year since its inception, it has been truly exciting to witness Zayd’s commitment to raising awareness and directly supporting the efforts of organisations and rescuers that devote their time and resources to the care of animals. It is my sincere hope that his dedication to this cause would also inspire and encourage others to get involved in the welfare of animals,” President Dr Irfaan Ali said in a Facebook post.
“We extend our greatest appreciation to everyone who attended and contributed to yesterday’s effort. Your presence and generosity have made a significant impact on this initiative,” he added.
Speaking with reporters during the sale, First Lady Arya Ali commended her son, noting that “he is just six years old and has been doing this for about three to four years now. As a family, we believe strongly in compassion, kindness, and giving back, and this is one way he can contribute at his age.”
Zayd also expressed his love for animals and encouraged the public to support the initiative. “I am doing this because I want to help animals. I love them,” the First Son expressed.
Last year the event raised $9 million, which was distributed among eight animal shelters and organisations.
