In a significant move to enhance the travel experience for thousands of patrons, solar-powered street lights have been installed at key intervals along the trail leading into Lethem.

This specifically supports the highly anticipated influx of visitors, particularly those navigating the terrain for the first time.

The Ministry of Public Works said the addition of lighting at strategic points along the route addresses long-standing safety concerns, providing much-needed visibility during nighttime travel and reducing the risks associated with the trail’s natural obstacles.

Lights have been installed at the Mabura Police Outpost, the Kurupukari Crossing Outpost, the Iwokrama Outpost and the Annai Police Outpost.

“Additionally, with the Rodeo attracting a record number of first-time visitors yearly, street lights we also install in Lethem. The Rodeo Site Access Road as well as the Takatu Bridge were also outfitted with the solar lights, to ensure that the adventure begins with confidence and peace of mind,” the ministry said.

“Whether you are a seasoned traveler or making your first trek to the Rupununi, these improvements reflect a commitment to modernizing our infrastructure and ensuring that every visitor reaches their destination safely,” the ministry added.
