Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond is currently attending the Regional Security System (RSS) Council of Ministers’ Meeting in St Lucia.

The meeting brings together regional leaders and international partners to advance collective security, resilience, and stability across the Caribbean.

“As our region faces evolving security challenges, Guyana remains committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with our Caribbean partners in building a safer, stronger region for all,” Minister Walrond said in a social media post.

The RSS is composed of high-ranking military and police officers from across the Caribbean. The agency has made several appearances in Guyana in a supporting role to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

Guyana officially joined the RSS in September 2022, when President Dr. Irfaan Ali signed the Instrument of Accession.

In June 2025, the Regional Security System (RSS) Bill 2025 was passed in the National Assembly, formally integrating the RSS into the country’s legal framework. It enables collective military and police responses to security threats, such as transnational crime and threats to democracy.
