A 30-year-old man this morning died while in custody at the Cove and John Police Station, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Otis Jordan, a block maker of South Haslington, ECD.
Jordan was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. He remained in the lockups until Tuesday morning, when he was scheduled to attend court.
Jordan’s mother told this publication that on Tuesday morning, when she visited the police station to bring fresh clothes for her son’s court appearance, the police informed her that he died.
“They say that he deh Enmore mortuary…so I say ‘what happen to he’, they said they don’t know, let I go Enmore and find out,” the mother, Amanda Kato, related.
At the hospital, the mother said the doctor informed that her son was already dead upon arrival at the facility.
The mother said upon seeing her son’s body, she observed marks of violence.
Up to the time of publication, police had not issued a statement on the incident.
