New systems being developed to strengthen workplace safety across public sector
Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, and Minister of Public Service, Zulfikar Ally, on Tuesday visited the Workplace Safety and Health training currently being held at the Ministry of Public Service’s Training and Development Department.
The three-day session, which commenced on Monday, March 16, 2026, and concludes on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, is being facilitated by Assistant Chief Occupational Safety and Health Officers of the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning (MOLMP), Ms. Maxean Bess and Mr. Roydon Croal.
The programme is designed to promote a safe, healthy, and productive work environment by educating public servants about workplace hazards, preventative measures, and established safety protocols.
During their visit, both Ministers engaged participants and delivered brief remarks, providing updates on new systems currently being developed to strengthen workplace safety and health across the public sector, while also highlighting opportunities for officers to upskill and advance their professional development.
Throughout the training, participants are being exposed to several key areas including workplace safety and health, occupational safety and health practices, workplace hazards and risk assessment, safety and health management systems, fire safety, accident reporting and investigation, and building a strong safety culture.
The training also includes awareness sessions from the Gender Affairs Bureau and the National AIDS Programme Secretariat, as well as modules on customer service and public engagement, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to promote safer and more responsive workplaces across government ministries and agencies.
