2 ECD men die after stabbing each other during row over woman

A confrontation between two men in the East Coast Demerara community of Bare Root on Saturday has left both dead, in what investigators believe was a dispute over a woman.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:00h at a residence in the village. The deceased have been identified as Joshua Joseph, 22, also known as “Racoon” and Jonathan Hassan, 26, also called “Cutto,” a father of one.

Preliminary reports indicate that the two men became embroiled in a heated argument, allegedly over a woman. The altercation quickly escalated into a knife fight during which both men are said to have inflicted stab wounds on each other.

Residents reported that one of the injured men collapsed at the scene. The other reportedly fled on a motorcycle but rode only a short distance before asking for water. He later fell from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries.

“Both of them, after fighting over the girl, just hugged each other and started stabbing each other, and both of them died. One of the guys that died, the girl is his child ‘s mother. They fought over her, both of them dead, and she is still standing. They lost their lives stupidly,” one resident told Inews.

Police have since secured the area and launched a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter. Investigations are ongoing.
