Leslie Edwards, called “Bumpy,” 57, a labourer of Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast, was reportedly hacked to death by his brother during a row.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Friday (February 20, 2026) about 14:10hrs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and his 59-year-old brother, with whom he resided, were at home when an argument reportedly ensued between them. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a garden hoe and dealt the deceased blows about his body.
Police ranks who visited the scene observed the victim lying motionless inside the yard area. He was escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body was later taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The 59-year-old suspect has been taken into police custody and was escorted to the Lima Regional Hospital where he is receiving medical attention. He remains under police guard assisting with the investigation.
