Digital wallets services will soon be available in Guyana as two banks move forward with plans to introduce modern electronic payment systems, following approval by the Bank of Guyana.

This was announced by President Dr Irfaan Ali today during the opening ceremony of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo 2026.

“We want our economy to run on a digital backbone,” he emphasised.

“Today, I’m pleased to tell you that we’ve completed the process at the Central Bank of building out the national payment platform and two local banks are ready go completely on the digital platform, they’ve already been approved so that we can now have digital wallets, digital payment systems and digital transfers here in Guyana and that will be the new standard,” the President said.
