A deejay has been committed to stand trial for inciting the sexual assault of a young woman at Raghoo’s Bar located at Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) in July 2025.
Leon DeFreitas, 36, of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke Linden Highway was committed by Magistrate Tameika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court.
Meanwhile, his co-accused, music selector Ryan Ramnarine, was freed of the charge.
The Magistrate discharged the charge against Ramnarine, upholding a no-case submission by the man’s lawyer, Bernand DaSilva.
The charges were laid following the July 13, 2025 incident where a 20-year-old woman was publicly raped.
The victim had alleged that she was drugged and raped by three males. The incident was captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.
Another accused, Barry Sullivan, has also been committed to stand trial.
