The United States extradition proceedings Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed will continue on February 9, 11, and 12 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
During the proceedings today, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sharon Roopchand-Edwards testified.
During her testimony, she outlined her role in the extradition process, explaining that Guyana received another extradition request from the United States in November last year.
In addition, Roopchand told the court that the additional request relates to a separate individual wanted by US law enforcement but did not provide the names.
However, with respect to the Mohameds case, she noted that the documents were formally transmitted through official channels in accordance with established extradition procedures.
When the case resumes next week as scheduled, the court is expected to hear testimony from two additional witnesses.
At the adjournment on Friday, special prosecutor Terrence Williams stated that he is quite sure that the cross-examination of witnesses will be completed soon.
The Mohameds are wanted by US authorities to face trial on charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering linked to their gold trading business.
