The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), in collaboration with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA), and the Small Miners Association, is urging all miners to continue operating in full compliance with the laws and regulations governing Guyana’s mining sector.

Miners are specifically reminded of the requirement to sell gold only to licensed dealers, in keeping with national regulations designed to safeguard transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the industry.

As part of a nationwide effort to eradicate unlicensed mining, a number of operations were recently closed and equipment seized. The ministry and its partner agencies wish to emphasise that these actions are not punitive in intent, but are aimed at bringing all mining activities within the legal and regulatory framework.

Miners whose operations were affected are encouraged to regularise their affairs by applying for the necessary permits through the GGMC. Once applications are assessed and approvals granted, operations will be allowed to resume in accordance with the law.

In parallel, the ministry is working closely with commercial banks to improve miners’ access to banking services. In this regard, GGMC Mining Stations are facilitating the registration and review process. Representatives from commercial banks will also be present to assist miners in meeting the required standards for financial services, including account opening and compliance with banking regulations.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, the GGMC, the GGDMA, and the Small Miners Association reaffirm their commitment to working with miners to promote a lawful, sustainable, and inclusive mining sector that benefits all Guyanese.
