Residents of Fitzburg, a community in Region One (Barima-Waini), have been updated on a number of projects that will be rolled out to improve their livelihoods.

Minister of Housing Collin Croal, alongside Region One Chairman, Brentnol Ashley, on Tuesday engaged the residents where it was announced that a new well will be drilled by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI). This project aims to bring Fitzburg to 100% potable water coverage and eliminate the community’s reliance on creek sources.

In addition to potable water accessibility, Minister Croal outlined the hinterland electrification programme upgrade that will also benefit the Port Kaituma area. He announced that a new generator was procured to bolster local power reliability.
Plans for community beautification, improved waste management, and other development initiatives were also spotlighted.

Meanwhile, during the interactive segment, residents raised various concerns which were addressed on the spot by Minister Croal and Chairman Ashley. Issues requiring further attention were documented for follow-up by the relevant agencies.

Present at the meeting were also Assistant Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Jason Ramjohn, and Chairman of the Matarkai NDC, Mr. Keith Parker, among other officials.
