Operators of the Corentyne back-track services have been cleared to continue normal operations following a meeting with officials of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) today.

The decision comes days after the operations were abruptly halted when cease-and-desist letters were issued by the GRA, ordering an immediate stop to all vessel movements at the long-standing crossing point.

The closure had affected dozens of workers and service providers, including boat crew, taxi drivers, porters, vendors and money changers, who depend heavily on daily back-track activity for their livelihoods.

On Monday, GRA officials revisited the location and informed operators that they were instructed to allow services to resume temporarily, pending the outcome of today’s meeting.

Following that engagement, operators were formally advised that they may now continue operating as normal, while discussions continue on long-term compliance and regulatory arrangements.

Operators have since expressed relief at the outcome, noting that the resumption of full operations brings stability back to the area and restores income for workers who were left uncertain during the closure period. They also indicated their willingness to cooperate fully with the authorities as future guidelines are finalised.
