The Guyana Police Force wishes to inform motorists that the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Tint) Regulations 2026 were officially published in the Official Gazette of Guyana on January 1, 2026, bringing the new vehicle tint regulations into legal effect.

While the regulations now establish the standards for permissible tint levels and the framework for enforcement, a three-month amnesty period has been granted to allow motorists adequate time to regularise their vehicles. This amnesty period is currently in effect and will run until March 31, 2026.

During the amnesty period, motorists are encouraged to take the necessary steps to ensure their vehicle tints comply with the prescribed requirements. No penalties will be enforced during this timeframe in relation to non-compliant tints.

Full enforcement of the regulations will commence on April 1, 2026. Thereafter, motorists found in breach of the tint regulations will be subject to the fines and penalties outlined under the law.

The Guyana Police Force urges all vehicle owners and operators to familiarise themselves with the new regulations and to make the necessary adjustments within the amnesty period to avoid inconvenience when enforcement begins.
