Police are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis following an intelligence-led operation at Covent Garden Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
At approximately 13:35 hours, ranks on patrol received information regarding illegal activities in the area and proceeded to a street in the Covent Garden Squatting Area, where they observed a black motorcar parked on the roadway.
A 47-year-old welder of Lot Prospect, EBD, was questioned and confirmed that he was the owner of the car.
A search was requested, but nothing illegal was found on his person; however, a further search of the vehicle revealed a bulky plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
He was then arrested, cautioned, and escorted to the Providence Police Station. The suspected narcotics were weighed in the suspect’s presence, totalling 110.15 grams.
The suspected cannabis was marked, sealed, and lodged; the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
