Police in Regional Division #5 (Mahaica-Berbice) have arrested two males after a large quantity of marijuana was found along the West Coast Berbice public road.

The discovery was made on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at about 15:45hrs during a mobile patrol along Naarstigheid Public Road, WCB.
During the patrol, ranks stopped a motorcycle which was proceeding in the direction of Georgetown with two males on it.
A search was conducted on a haversack worn by the pillion rider during which nine (9) parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found.
The driver, a 31-year-old male of Savannah Park, New Amsterdam, and the pillion rider, a 23-year-old male of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam were both arrested and taken into custody.
The suspected cannabis and both suspects were escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station where the narcotics were weighed in their presence and amounted to 3.70 kilograms (8.157 pounds). The suspected cannabis was subsequently lodged.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
