Police in Berbice are investigating an accident that resulted in the death of 30-year-old Davendra Sydney of Bushlot Village, who was a passenger in a motorcar driven by an intoxicated driver.
Reports are that the crash occurred at around 23:20hrs on Thursday, along the Alness Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. It involved motorcar PWW 6986, driven by a 31-year-old man from John’s Settlement, with Sydney as the passenger.
The car was heading east at a high speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle overturned, throwing Sydney onto the southern parapet, and came to a stop on a bridge.
Both men sustained injuries and were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens. Sydney was pronounced dead on arrival, and his body was taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination. The driver was admitted with bruises.
A breathalyzer test administered to the driver registered 77 and 74 micrograms. Police investigations are ongoing.
