Edghill highlights investment opportunities in port development, infrastructure sector during meeting with UK businesses
Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill, today welcomed members of the UK Business Mission to Guyana and Suriname, to a strategic meeting held in his boardroom.
The engagement focused on deepening partnerships and identifying new avenues for two-way trade, investment, and project collaboration between international firms and Caribbean counterparts.
During the conversation, Minister Edghill underscored the Government of Guyana’s dedication to creating a business climate that promotes technical advancement, sustainable growth and cooperative efforts.
The meeting gave the mission representatives a chance to discuss possible positions in Guyana’s developing energy, infrastructure, logistics and environmental sectors.
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), BritCham Guyana, Smart Suriname, Kestrel (shipping and logistics), Aggreko (energy solutions), Cura Terrae (environmental services), Ellipse Projects (technology and project development), I.T. Transport TT, Mowlem (engineering), NCUK, NSG Exports Limited, Rainbo Supplies, REIDsteel, Rosetta Stone, and SiriusInsight were among the many organizations represented in the UK Business Mission.
Both sides expressed optimism about future areas of collaboration, noting that strengthened partnerships can support capacity building, enhance regional connectivity, and promote innovation across key sectors including infrastructure, energy and ICT.
Minister Edghill emphasised investment potential in sectors that are in line with Guyana’s national development goal including port development, renewable energy, infrastructure modernisation and technological integration.
As Guyana and its regional partners strive to broaden investment horizons and develop resilient, future-ready sectors in collaboration with international stakeholders, the meeting ended with a pledge to maintain communication for tangible developments.
The delegation was led by British High Commissioner to Guyana and UK Ambassador to Suriname Jane Miller and included Regional Director for Commonwealth Caribbean D’Jamila Ward among others.
