The Carnegie School of Home Economics (CSHE) celebrated its 2025 Graduation Ceremony last Thursday at the National Cultural Centre under the theme: “Shaping generations with creativity and skills – 93 years of transformation in education and training.” A total of 67 students graduated across five programmes: Commercial Food Preparation, Garment Making, Cosmetology, Interior Decoration, and Catering and Hospitality.

Delivering the feature address, Director of the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD), Ms. Omwattie Ramdin, commended graduates for their dedication and urged them to approach their careers with purpose and excellence. She reminded them that success requires continual effort: “Hope is not a strategy; excellence is a daily choice. Your certificate will only begin to work for you when you do.”

Ms. Ramdin further highlighted that Home Economics plays a crucial role in national development, preparing individuals not only for employment but also for leadership in growing industries.

“Give your employers a reason to fight for you, not because of your qualifications alone, but because of the attitude you bring to your work,” she emphasised.

This year’s achievements include a marked increase in overall pass rates, driven by strengthened industry partnerships and Competency-Based Education and Training aligned with CANTA occupational standards. Internships at reputable hospitality, garment, and cosmetology establishments have already led to job placements for many graduates.

The ceremony underscored the Government of Guyana’s commitment to expanding access to education and skills training that empowers citizens to excel in a modern and rapidly diversifying economy. Continued investment in technical and vocational programmes ensures that more Guyanese can secure sustainable careers and contribute to national progress.

Principal Dr. Sharmaine Marshall expressed deep gratitude to the Ministry of Education, industry partners, families, and staff for their unwavering support.

She congratulated the graduates on their resilience and adaptability; qualities she noted will guide them as they step confidently into new opportunities.
