The two-lane road along the Essequibo Coast will soon be expanded to four lanes, according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali.

Addressing the opening of the Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority Building at Suddie, Essequibo Coast, the President said the design of this new infrastructure project will commence before the end of 2025.

“Whilst in these five years, we focused heavily on community roads and community infrastructure, one of the plans and programmes that we have, that will commence before the end of this year, is the design and rebuilding of this highway into a four-lane highway,” he noted.

The road was recently redone, but the President said: “when we built this highway, we never expected such fast and rapid growth in the traffic here in Region Two.”

The road along the Essequibo Coast measures approximately 59km from Supenaam to the Pomeroon River.
