Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Friday February 20, 2026, about 03:00hrs on Dennis Street, Sophia, Georgetown, in the vicinity of the Juvenile Holding Centre, involving Motor Car PLL 6764 driven by a 22-year-old male of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, and Motorcycle CN 4508 driven by a 44-year-old male of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, with pillion rider Henrick Serrao, 39, also of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (deceased).
Initial enquiries revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Dennis Street, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the rider reportedly lost control and collided with Motor Car PLL 6764, which was stationary on the northern grass parapet of the said road.
As a result of the collision, the rider and pillion rider were flung from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway, sustaining injuries about their bodies. The pillion rider was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. The rider later left the scene but was subsequently contacted and arrested.
CCTV footage was observed in the area and reviewed as part of the investigation.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour Mortuary.
The driver of the motorcycle was arrested and is assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
